Risk of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment in atopic dermatitis: A 12-year nationwide cohort study

The risk of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) was investigated in pediatric patients with atopic dermatitis (AD) in a “nested case-control study” with data from the Korean National Health Insurance database.

Various ophthalmic complications can be caused by AD and RRD is the most serious of them all.

Results from this study showed that severe cases of AD are associated with a heightened risk of developing RRD.
