A recent systematic review of the safety and efficacy of systemic corticosteroids in atopic dermatitis revealed that there is not enough evidence, at this time, to determine the optimal delivery or duration of use of corticosteroids in AD.
However, the literature does suggest a general consensus to limit the use of steroids to short courses due to possible side effects, such as growth suppression in children and osteoporosis.
