According to recent guidelines developed and published in The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology: In Practice, atopic dermatitis (AD) should be considered severe if:
- it covers, at minimum, 10% of the body’s surface
- individual lesions are present with severe features
- highly visible areas, or areas important for function, are involved
- quality of life is significantly impaired
Guidelines for the treatment of AD include the use of moisturizers, topical corticosteroids, biologics, and more.
