A review of 201 pediatric residency programs and their associated children’s hospitals was unable to identify a treatment algorithm for children coming to the emergency department (ED) with atopic dermatitis. An ED management algorithm was designed with differential diagnosis considerations, indications for laboratory evaluation, triage parameters for hospitalization, and a treatment and follow-up plan based on disease severity. This algorithm has been implemented at one pediatric hospital.
