Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic, inflammatory disease of the skin affecting up to 25% of children and 2-4% of adults.

As the first of four sections, this guideline discusses the method for diagnosing, ways of monitoring disease outcome, clinical associations, disease severity, biomarkers, and any known risk factors for AD.

This guideline also addresses currents gaps in research regarding the disease.
