Atopic dermatitis: Recommendations for dietary interventions

Eliminating foods based solely on food allergy test results should not be used for the management of atopic dermatitis. Food allergies may coexist with AD and even be a trigger for AD, however the true frequency of a food allergy causing an AD flare is most likely low. If there is a consistent correlation between a food and the AD flare, then a diagnostic elimination diet may be initiated. Multiple dietary restrictions and long term dietary restrictions should only be implemented with documented, clinically relevant food allergies.

Studies have found limited evidence to support using probiotics as an AD management technique.

There is also little data to support using dietary supplements to manage AD.
