There is an increased risk of poverty and poor health for children in families that do not consist of two married, biological parents.
No clear relationship between family structure and atopic dermatitis (AD) exists. To paint a clearer picture of a possible relationship, a study set out to establish the “prevalence of AD and related outcomes in children from different family structures.”
Results showed that children from different family structures may have an increased risk of developing AD. For children with AD, different family structures were associated with suboptimal health, including depression, anxiety and stress.
